"To all whom these Presents shall come, we the undersigned Delegates of the States affixed to our Names send greeting. Whereas the Delegates of the United States of America in Congress assembled did on the fifteenth day of November in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Seven, and in the Second Year of the Independence of America agree to certain Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union Between the States of New Hampshire, Massachusetts bay Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, Conneticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia."
-Preamble to the Articles of Confederation
Not exactly a more perfect union, is it? Did seven years of revolution and strife instill a sense of drama to our forefathers' souls? Or perhaps the signatories in 1777 were fairly sure they'd all be dead soon anyway, and utilitarianism had to rule the day.

Edit: Two movie events of which I'd like everyone to be aware:
This Friday and Saturday at 10:00PM the Loft will be showing The Big Lebowski. I'll be attending the Saturday show, and I hope some of you might join me.
On Thursday July 28, The Princess Bride will be the outdoor movie at La Placita, downtown. I may have to take the night off work to attend, we'll see. Is anyone up for this?

I would like to go to The Princess Bride, but I'll be just back from vacation and my ass will need to be at the dojo instead.
Also, don't forget you're taking off Wednesday the 27 to pick me up from the airport at an ungodly hour - we can rent The Princess Bride if it'd make you feel better.
